On Thursday we had an esteemed guest visiting our NDTV IndiaCan Guwahati Center. Her name is Ms. Sreemoyee Raina Sharma and she is a psychologist with Operation Smile. It was our privilege to share her dynamic experience and how she got to join hands with this organization. Operation Smile is a non-profit medical service organization established in 1982 by Dr. William P. Magee and Kathleen S. Magee dedicated in providing cleft lip and palate repair surgeries to children worldwide. They are based in Norfolk, Virginia with centers setup in different parts of the world.
Ms. Sreemoyee is with the Guwahati center. They have state-of-the-art establishment and this is one of its kind in India. They have collaborated with ASHA (Assam Socio-Economic Healthy Association) to identify the cleft patients in different parts of North-East and approach them for corrective surgeries. Not just this, they have taken an initiative of organizing toy drives with the help of Sarla Birla International and Don Bosco school here at Assam. This makes the child patients comfortable and fearless before the surgery and also simultaneously puts a smile on their faces.

To date, Operation Smile has provided reconstructive surgery to over 5,000 children and young adults of Assam. They take up around 25 cases everyday which also includes burn injuries and physical deformities. Ms. Sreemoyee started as a volunteer in 2009 to help the children who had stopped going to schools due to the harassment by their co-mates. She permanently got appointed with Operation Smile in 2010 and embarked on several missions all over the world. Her confidence even crossed the language barriers and let her deep to the hearts of the suffering children.

WORLD ALWAYS LOOKS BRIGHTER WITH LOTS OF SMILES AROUND....
Ms. Sreemoyee is trying to spread the smiles around her. You do the same....
