Everyday is a learning experience.We at NDTV Indiacan, Ghy, Center had a wonderful day meeting Ms.Sreemoyee Raina Sharma, who is a multi faceted lady, a physiologist, a media personality, an eminent socialist activist,..Interacting with her made us realize that to be successful in life, one needs to be confident, positive,have proactive attitude, should be flexible, honest, loyal, hardworking, should take initiative, should believe in teamwork, must be willing to learn & should be a good communicator to mention a few.
Smile, because when you Smile, There will be Smile & Smile, Miles & Miles...Thats what Operation Smile believes & strives to spread everywhere.Ms.Sreemoyee shared all her experience regarding how she got associated with Operation Smile.She told that Operation Smile is a not-for-profit organization, which provides free corrective surgeries to patients with cleft lip & palate deformities.Founded in 1982, this USA based Organization is gifting smiles in more than 52 countries around the globe.
Felt good to know that Govt. of Assam & Operation Smile India have forged a public private partnership supported by NHRM & Sir Dorabji Tata Trust & Allied Trusts with the objective to make Assam " A Cleft Free State''On an average at least 25 surgeries are done everyday at the state of the art, 10 bedded Comprehensive cleft care centre at the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital in Guwahati..Approximately 5000 patients have got their surgeries done.Ms.Shreemoyee even informed us about the other services provided at Operation Smile centre like free medical examination, surgery & medicine.Accommodation, food & transport from home village to Guwahati and back are provided for patients and attendant, cash amount under the Morom Scheme of Assam Govt.
A cleft patient not only suffer from the problem of facial deformity but also have problems regarding eating, breathing, dental,speech,psychological stress, not able to go to school and to be socially ostracized.
So, I feel that gifting these people a normal life by gifting smile,is definitely the best gift one can gift someone.Certainly Ms.Shreemoyee, her team members associated with Operation Smile believe they are not God, but the service they are offering is certainly & truely Divine..
